Brian Giebel, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor and Facility Manager of the Advanced Laboratory for Chemical and Isotopic Signatures within the Environmental Sciences Initiative. Giebel completed his graduate research at University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and served as a Research Chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology before joining the ASRC in August 2016.
Giebel’s interests span analytical chemistry, trace gas chemistry, and stable isotope biogeochemistry. He has developed analytical methods, techniques, and sampling protocols for measuring the stable isotopic composition of atmospheric trace organic compounds including CO2, non-methane hydrocarbons, and oxygenated volatile organic compounds. Ancillary projects include creating reliable isotopic reference materials and calibration standards for isotopic measurements as well as modifying analytical instrumentation to improve measurement sensitivities and detection limits toward the overall goal of improved accuracy, precision, and reliability.
