With AAAS Fellowship, ASRC’s Camille Santistevan Plans to Foster GC Science Community

Camille Santistevan headshotWhen the American Association for the Advancement of Science(AAAS) convened its newest group of Community Engagement Fellows in January, Camille Santistevan, associate director of public relations at The Graduate Center’s Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), was among the 23 professionals participating in the year-long program.

The AAAS program aims to create a shared base of knowledge for and raise the profile of the scientific community engagement field — a profession that is gaining traction among science institutions, but which is still in the early stages of defining itself. The key task for individuals working in the field, however, is facilitating communication and building communities that help scientists within their organizations work together more effectively. Santistevan has been doing this work at the ASRC in various capacities since the flagship scientific research and education center opened nearly five years ago.
